Currently, secondary school children within the UK are being taught French, German or Spanish as a second language. But should learning one of these be compulsory?
On one side of this argument, it should be compulsory. This is because it gives children a skill for later life. It can help them when finding employment in later life. Learning a new language also helps their brains to develop and grow.
On the contrast, it may not be the best idea to make this compulsory. Some children can really struggle to learn a new language. It can make life more difficult for them and not help them develop. They may end up becoming more agitated and naughty in class. For example, people with learning difficulties like Dyslexia, should not be forced to learn a new language.
If a child wants to learn a new language or multiple languages. They should be given the option to. However, it shouldn’t be forced upon them.
