Are DVDs the way forward for learning a New Language?

You’ve probably seen the adverts on TV, showing you that you can learn a new language through a selection of training DVDs, while interactive online software is another option.

The only downside is that you don’t get a great deal of time with fluent speakers and listening to recordings and snippets of sound can only get you so far. It is always recommended that you hold conversations with fluent speakers and test yourself, because every language has variations, and you’ll learn more by communicating with others.

For example, if you were learning English, and you were only listening to a speaker from Merseyside, you may pick up the scouse accent and perhaps struggle to comprehend variations spoken to you from by a Londoner or a Glaswegian. It’s all well and good to learn the basics through DVDs but you’ll learn so much more by communicating with real people.
