When you’re on holiday abroad you can’t always expect the locals to speak perfect English, and it could be wise to learn a few important phrases. We’re going to talk you through some of these.
One crucial aspect of every holiday is returning home, and if you’re in a panic rush attempting to get to the airport, you’ll need to be clear to taxi man, otherwise you could miss your flight. Instead of pointing to a map, you should learn the phrase “please can you take me to the airport?” In Spanish this is “Por favor, ¿puedes llevarme al aeropuerto?” so get practicing.
You may also need to know your numbers, preferably one to 20 or more, just so you don’t find yourself getting ripped off when you’re buying goods from local shops.
Another phrase which is equally as important is asking for directions. You’ll need to be able to pronounce the place properly, while also saying, “where on the map is.” These are just a few phrases you may want to learn, in addition to the ‘thank you’ ‘please’ ‘yes’ and ‘no’.
